How To Use Wakelet

About

At its core, Wakelet is a link collection page that allows for group and/or individual development. There is a massive collection of Wakelet resources available at this very moment, plus an in-house community of developers that actively looks for and creates Wakelet collections you may be interested in.

My first collaborative adventure will be used by my school’s Social Studies department. It focuses on infographics and map reading skills with the idea being that the whole department can share resources as we all go to different PD during the summer.

How It Works

The purpose is to create Collections of web links or images with a common theme or purpose. Some collections are used as holders for class resources. This is my current usage strategy because even though it has a similar feel to Pinterest, the options for layout and designs are vastly different. The ability to share with others and to be collaborators makes it a better choice for teachers that share resources for class activities much easier. With the multiple layout options included for each collection, it helps give function and focus to resources that are needed for a long project. Additionally, since this is an education-focused community and part of the Microsoft ecosystem, it was already safe to use and is likely part of your school district’s whitelist and available to use today.

Also, I find that it is extremely easy to use in the mobile app because the saving feature in Chrome allows you to port the link over to the app. As I read more and more email newsletters on my phone, it’s hard to save and share in a way that doesn’t make more email clutter for my co-workers. Plus, their active community of creators is really trying to help educators out. I post in my Twitter feed early one morning and had a response with an active Collection filled with 12 different resource collections. That’s right, you can make multiple collections and nest them into a larger collection. So once your school has created multiple Collections, you can make a school one to share all the links together.

I made a comment on Twitter and got a response the same day.

What To Do Next

Go here and check out what I have put together in my collections. It’s not much but it is the start of something I will keep using. Additionally, become a member and sign up for the WakeletCommunityWeek events in June. It will be multiple days of content creators sharing how they use and develop the resource for their businesses and classrooms.

I’m going to Wakelet Community Week and I think you should too! It’s a FREE virtual event, and you could win an iPad just for signing up! This will help you get ahead for next year.
