After this last week of ridiculous events on Twitter, aka X, I can not stress enough the need for teachers, schools, and school districts to leave the platform completely. Elon Musk must no longer be allowed to benefit from educators content creation.
If you are wondering what new reasons beyond my previous posting just read from any major news outlet (Washington Post, NYTimes, Axios)
Sadly what also needs to happen, but may not for now, is that NASA needs to migrate it’s live events news feeds off of Twitter and to another platform completely. Because of Musk close ties to SpaceX and Twitter, NASA will be threading a very fine needle if it pushes to use a different platform. The US government is tied to Musk for awhile and that is not a good thing.
One of the main reasons why it’s so difficult for companies, in my opinion, to leave Twitter right now is it’s the only global platform that is available to everyone. And what I mean by that is that the Twitter clones have not been fully fully developed. I know some will say that Instagram and Facebook could feel avoid; however, they’re not used the same way as Twitter especially for educators that use it as a professional learning community to interact. Additionally some of my coworkers who live here in the United States with me but are from overseas are not experiencing Twitter the same way as we are so it may be a while before it finally dies.
I highly recommend watching Ian Bremmer’s Ted Talk about how these kinds of events will continue to priferate and create a new shift in geopolitics.
