DYK This month, the Adobe Creative Challenge is diving into the realm of environmental policy and advocacy, prompting creators to harness their creativity for a greater cause. Inspired by this, I’ve taken the original single scene video template for Adobe Express and transformed it into a captivating micro seminar and persuasive PSA for students.
What To Do
First: Lots of Choice
Give students choice to discuss current and past federal law that regulated land and resources management. I made a list of 15 different laws and I even had a couple of students ask to do a specific law that they care about because of personal impact. ( DYK that Vermont has laws against roadside signs because they don’t want to mess with the beauty of the state. I didn’t know till one of my students ask to use it for his project.)
Second: Be Positive Not Negative
This is not all about negative action. Teach your students that the absence of legislation is complete deregulation. Therefore, pushing for changes in laws or different policy enforcement can make a difference. Encourage them to make an opinion and tell others what to do if they agree with it.
Third: Act Local, Think Global
The UN Sustainable Development Goals are a great place to give students broad understanding of the impact of sustainability in modern government policy. It also helps to show that following UN policy helps connect local actions to global impact.

Third: Let Them Speak
Students need the chance to talk about this with each other. Public forums are great but getting students to talk about the laws in class and share the similarities between their POVs is a great way to build community and confidence.
