• May 5, 1961 – Alan Shepard’s Suborbital Flight: Alan Shepard became the first American in space during the Freedom 7 mission, a suborbital flight.
• May 25, 1961 – Kennedy’s Moon Speech: President John F. Kennedy delivered a historic speech challenging the United States to send astronauts to the moon before the end of the decade.
• May 30, 1971 – Mariner 9 Launch: NASA’s Mariner 9 became the first spacecraft to orbit Mars, providing valuable data about the planet.
