June:
- June 3, 1965 – Edward White’s Spacewalk: NASA astronaut Edward White became the first American to conduct a spacewalk during the Gemini 4 mission.
- June 18, 1983 – Sally Ride’s Spaceflight: Sally Ride, the first American woman in space, lifted off aboard the Space Shuttle Challenger during STS-7.
- June 30, 1908 – Tunguska Event: A massive explosion occurred over the Tunguska River in Siberia, believed to be caused by the airburst of a meteoroid or comet fragment.
July:
- July 15, 1972 – Last Apollo Moonwalk: Apollo 16 astronauts John Young and Charles Duke conducted the final moonwalk of the Apollo program.
- July 20, 1969 – Apollo 11 Moon Landing: NASA’s Apollo 11 mission, led by astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, successfully landed on the moon, making Armstrong the first person to set foot on the lunar surface.
- July 20, 1976 – Viking 1 Mars Landing: NASA’s Viking 1 became the first spacecraft to successfully land on Mars, conducting experiments to search for life.
August:
- August 6, 2012 – Mars Rover Curiosity Landing: NASA’s Curiosity rover successfully landed on Mars, beginning its mission to explore the Red Planet.
- August 21, 1957 – Launch of the Soviet Dogs: The Soviet Union launched two dogs, Belka and Strelka, into space, becoming the first animals to return safely from orbit.
- August 25, 1981 – Voyager 2 Launch: NASA’s Voyager 2 spacecraft was launched to explore the outer planets of the solar system.
