- January 3, 2019 – Chang’e 4 Lunar Landing: China’s Chang’e 4 became the first spacecraft to successfully land on the far side of the moon, opening new possibilities for lunar exploration.
- January 27, 1967 – Apollo 1 Fire: A cabin fire during a pre-launch test killed three American astronauts, Gus Grissom, Ed White, and Roger B. Chaffee, during the Apollo 1 mission.
- On January 28, 1986, the Space Shuttle Challenger broke apart 73 seconds into its flight, killing all seven crew members aboard.
- January 31, 1958 – Explorer 1 Launch: The United States launched Explorer 1, the first American satellite, marking the beginning of the U.S. space program.
